AdaptoMAS – a connection from chip to device

Introduction

Recent investigations into cell cultures necessitate systems that are able to record and stimulate electrically with microelectrode arrays (MEAs). Therefore, this project aims to establish a platform that ensures reliable and accurate signal measurements from cells on a chip. Within the scope of the practical, adapters have to be developed that connect our in-house MEAs with the readout device.

Aim & Research Methods

Your task is to…

  • design and fabricate various adapters for connecting the measuring device to our microelectrode array chips
  • perform experiments to verify adapters

You will be introduced in an interdisciplinary working environment and will learn the following techniques:

(i)     techniques for rapid prototyping such as laser-patterning

(ii)    electrochemical characterization techniques

(iii)   experimental design and scientific writing

Requirements

  • experience in PCB design and fabrication
  • experience in 3D design software (Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, or any similar software)
  • dedication and motivation to work on an interdisciplinary research topic self-reliantly
  • excellent experimental skills
