Beschreibung

Topic Supervisor Status
The gm/Id Design Method
The gm/Id Design Method is a common technique in modern analog IC design flows. It is used to determine the optimal transistor size in terms of drain efficiency.
This seminar should introduce the gm/Id design method and show some examples, where this method led to fabricated ICs, as well as comparing it with other analog design metrics.

Impact ionization effect on LDMOS Devices
The impact ionization effect and its implications on the performance and reliability of LDMOS devices is a non-negligable factor in power device designs. It can significantly influence the characteristics and the safe operating area of HV transistors.
This study should provide an in-depth analysis of the physical principles behind impact ionization, and how it manifests in LDMOS devices under various operating conditions. A key focus will be on understanding the relationship between impact ionization and the device parameters such as temperature, breakdown voltage, and doping concentration. A further examination on the modeling of impact ionization in compact models is optional.

Energy-Efficient Direct RF-modulation transmitter in V-band

Conventional Gilbert-Cell based mixers are not suitable for ultra low-power battery-operated radio devices due to its high power consumption and hence it is desirable to perform modulation (OOK/ ASK) directly at the power amplifier end for such devices which eliminates the mixer usage. In this seminar you will perform a survey of such CMOS-based transmitter architectures operating in the V-band (40-75 GHz) and compare their performance.

Investigate the Time-Interleaved  ADC calibration techniques

Interleaving provides advantages in terms of power and speed. Unfortunately, due to process-voltage-temperature (PVT), the TI-ADC channel responses experience mismatches. The tasks of the seminar at a glance:

1.    Basic of TI-ADC operation

2.    Error sources in TI-ADC

3.    Introduce and compare the different calibration techniques

Investigate the radiation-induced errors in neural network

Thanks to the low power consumption, and low cost, artificial neural networks (ANNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are attractive for space applications, such as space exploration, and autonomous driving.  Unfortunately, the neural network based on the CMOS technology has been shown to have high radiation sensitivity. Therefore, those aspects are interesting to be investigated:

1.    Which radiation effects can influence the neural network’s accuracy

2.    How can we evaluate the radiation-included errors in different types of neural networks

3.    Are there any hardening strategy

Survey on CMOS Technologies for RF Switches

RF Switches are necessary components in modern RFFE systems. Solid-state RF switches
show advantages in reliability and cost. Compared to the semiconductor technologies for
general RF/analog application, different metrics of device should be taken into
consideration to optimize the performance of RF switch. This seminar should introduce
the key par
ameters for the RF switch devices and the evolution of the previous
technologies.

Survey on CMOS Capacitive

Capacitive sensors can be utilized for various applications such as proximity sensing,
humidity sensing or pressure sensing. A corresponding sensor interface circuit which
can read out the capacitance value and convert it to an analog or digital signal is
needed to integrate the sensor into a larger system. This seminar should investigate
the different topologies of the CMOS-based capacitive sensor interface circuits.
Comparison between different sensor interface circuits should be conducted with a
summary based on performances like resolution and power consumption.ensor Interface

Investigation of Ring Oscillator(RO) performance at Cryogenic temperature (4K)

Oscillator is an important block of Phase Locked Loop (PLL). For quantum computing applications, a PLL based frequency synthesizer is used as a sub block of a big RF pulse generator ASIC. This ASIC is used to drive the qubits and it has to work at low temperatures (till 4 kelvin).  Aspects that would be interesting to  investigate in this seminar is:

(1) Study the low temperature performance of ring oscillators (RO) down to 4K (especially the delay per stage, static and dynamic current).

(2) Phase noise analysis down to 4K.

Methods for Signal Synchronization with regard to sEMG

With sEMG (surface electromyography), the electrical activity of the muscles is measured non-invasively by attaching electrodes to the skin. The EMG signal should be synchronized with other recordings in order to be able to understand which movements were performed by the test subject at which time of the EMG signal. This can be, for example, a video recording of the test subject or data from an IMU motion capture system. Various methods of synchronization are to be presented and compared in a literature review.
