Organic Spintronics

The Chiral(ity)-Induced Spin Selectivity (CISS) effect describes an apparent property of chiral molecules to prefer one spin direction in charge transport. This allows for spin-polarized current conduction merely because of the handedness of a deposited organic layer without the need for magnetic materials or externally applied fields. We experimentally investigate novel material combinations (such as phosphoric acid derivatives grown on metal oxides) for spin valve architectures that achieve high magnetoresistance effects and can provide a possible pathway towards future organic spintronic device applications.
